Doosan Vina wins 800 MW coal-fired boilers from India

09.OCT.2012

Doosan Vina announced the signing of a $77 million USD contract to produce two super-critical coal-fired boilers for power plants in India.  The contract between Doosan Power Systems India and Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam is for two 800 MW boilers to be installed at the Kudgi Power Plant in Southwest India in 2014.

This is a significant event because these boilers will be making history as they will be the largest boilers ever produced in Vietnam.  The “Supercritical Once-Thru boilers” will deliver 2,550 tons of high-pressure steam per hour and operate under extreme temperatures & pressures.  With temperatures reaching 569 degrees Celsius and attaining pressure levels of 271 kilograms per square centimeter, these boilers can only be manufactured by a few companies and only under the most stringent conditions.

General Director, Ryu Hang-Ha who signed the contract on the behalf of Doosan Vina said “This order reaffirms Doosan Vina’s place as a global leader in the highly technical world of Power Plant Boiler design, engineering, and manufacture.  The signing of this contract signifies the faith that world class companies like DPSI have in the expertise and ability of Doosan Vina to deliver quality products. Our Vietnamese engineers and technicians who will make these boilers are now recognized worldwide for their skill and ability.” Ryu went on to say, “This  is another step in the development of a local power industry and it puts Vietnam that much closer to being able to end the export of jobs to other countries when contracting for power plant construction.”

Another project currently underway at Doosan Vina is for two 600MW boilers that will soon be powering development in northern Vietnam form the Mong Duong II power plant.  Other boilers that bear the “Made in Vietnam” label and are now working in: Brazil (360MW x 4units), Saudi Arabia (275MWx2units), India (600MWx2) and Egypt (650MWx2units) are showing the world that Vietnamese is a member of an exclusive club of nations that can produce these highly engineered products.
