New General Director at Doosan Vina

17.MAY.2011

Newly appointed Doosan Vina General Director, Mr. Hang Ha Ryu has assumed leadership of the Dung Quat, Vietnam based facility.  Mr. Ryu has worked for Doosan since 1981 and has been in Vietnam since 2002 when he was appointed General Director of Hanvico in Hai Phong (now Doosan Vina Hai Phong).  He was later appointed Doosan Heavy Industries Chief Representative in Vietnam.

Doosan Vina is currently the contractor on such mega domestic projects such as the 1.5 billion USD Mong Duong II thermal power plant and a major subcontractor on the multimillion-dollar Nhon Trach II in Vietnam.  The company has also reached preliminary agreement for the Quynh Lap and Long Phu power plant projects.  These are but a few of Doosan Vina’s domestic projects being completed, underway or planned to start soon.

Globally, Doosan Vina is involved with building the world’s largest ever desalination project, has shipped products to Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, The UAE, Brazil, India, Singapore and many other countries with a total value well over 200 million USD.

In his remarks during the appointment ceremony, Mr. Ryu said, “much has been accomplished here at Doosan Vina, but we still have challenges ahead and customer satisfaction, quality control, production increases and marketing are areas that we must focus on in the weeks, months and years ahead.”  Ryu went on to say, “I am confident in Doosan Vina’s success, and I look forward to working with each of you to reach the goals we have set.”

In a May 2009 interview Ryu said, “The most important thing in Heavy Industry is technology.  It is crucial if we are to maintain our position and market share, a company in this field must be a leader, pushing advances and innovations that will improve performance, connect with customer needs and the next generation.”  He reinforced those thoughts at today’s ceremony by explaining that Doosan Vina was born with the latest technology and engineering, and he assured the staff that it still is today and always will be in the future, it is a “must do” to maintain a competitive edge and be customer driven.

Doosan first entered Vietnam in 1995 with a joint venture in Hai Phong.  After a visit to Vietnam in October of 2004 by then Company Chairman, Mr. YS Park, who was so impressed with the initial results, that he tasked Mr. Ryu to find a 100 Hectare site on the sea that could be developed as the Doosan Group’s forward strategic production base and lead the company’s second century of growth.

For several months after that directive, Mr. Ryu found himself out scouring the Vietnamese coastline for a suitable location.  The company eventually settled on a site in the Dung Quat Economic Zone of Quang Ngai Province, invested 300 million USD, broke ground in February of 2007 and held its grand opening on May 15th.

Today Doosan Vina employs 3,000 people in Vietnam and continues to grow both the company and Vietnam’s reputation as a world leader in the field of Heavy Industry.
