On 29 June 2024, Doosan Vina signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Marubeni Group, Japan for “Cooperation of Offshore Wind Power in Vietnam” to promote new business activities of the two companies in the field of green and sustainable energy.
Sharing at the signing ceremony, Doosan Vina General Director Kim Hyo Tae emphasized that Doosan Vina will actively participate in implementing the Vietnamese Government's commitment at the COP26 Conference to net zero emissions by 2050. This MOU, along with the MOU signed with the global leading wind power group, Ørsted (Denmark), is a base for Doosan Vina to firmly enter the renewable energy market. Doosan Vina is currently shifting its focus and business portfolio towards environmental protection and takes this as a growth driver in the coming future. Mr. Kim stated that Vietnam is a country with abundant wind, solar and sea, it brings high potential to develop renewable energy, especially offshore wind power.
Mr. Kawamura, Marubeni’s head of power business at APAC region said that offshore wind will play a very important role in Marubeni’s strategies. With 50-year presence in power sector in Vietnam, Marubeni wishes to contribute to Vietnam economy and government policy.
Following the execution of the MOU, Doosan Vina and Marubeni will jointly study and explore the feasibility and viability for collaboration in Vietnam. Doosan Vina plans to manufacture Wind Turbine’s monopile foundations and other components for Offshore Wind farm at Doosan Vina’s 100 ha factory at Quang Ngai province. Marubeni also intends to explore and expand collaboration with other capable Vietnamese local manufacturing companies to contribute to the economic growth and development of offshore wind power industry in Vietnam.
Doosan is a strategic partner of Marubeni in power business in APAC. Doosan and Marubeni have successfully constructed Nghi Son 2 BOT power project in Thanh Hoa province, in which Marubeni is a member of Investor Consortium while Doosan is the EPC Contractor.
