Doosan Vina successfully delivered 2 STS cranes to Chu Lai port

16.MAY.2024

On May 16, 2024, Doosan Vina held ceremony to hand over two RMQC cranes to Chu Lai international seaport (located in Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province) after 16 months from the date of signing the contract for purchasing, fabricating, erecting, testing and operating training.

These two ship-to-shore cranes belong to the Chu Lai Port project, signed by Doosan Vina with Chu Lai International Seaport Co., Ltd. on December 30, 2022, to increase loading and unloading capacity of Chu Lai port. Each crane is 57.5m high, 98m long, 27m wide, has the outreach up to 40m, inshore reach of 16m and can load and unload 40 tons cargo containers, suitable for 50,000 DWT cargo ships.

It was the first time the crane is manufactured, erected, and delivered right at the construction site instead of being completed at Doosan Vina and then transported to the customer port like previous projects. Although there are some inadequacies in the transportation of materials and working and living conditions at the construction site, with the capacity, experience and solidarity of Doosan Vina employees along with the active support of Chu Lai port, all difficulties have been overcome promptly and effectively. The success of the project demonstrated Doosan people's ability to adapt to all circumstances and conditions, always flexibly found appropriate solutions and brought the project to the finish line on schedule.

Mr. Bui Minh Truc, General Director of Truong Hai International Logistics Limited Liability Company said: “We are happy that Doosan Vina agreed to execute two STS cranes right at Chu Lai port. This helps us save a lot of costs and we also learn may valuable things about professional working style from Doosan Vina. We are really impressed with Doosan Vina's quality and project progress controls every day and every hour throughout the project implementation process."

Mr. Truc added: "The operation of these two STS cranes is a very important step in the progress and loading & unloading productivity of Chu Lai port. It is increased almost 3 to 4 times higher than before. With the orientation of developing into a large, specialized container port in the Central region to connect the North and South, I hope that in the coming time, we will continue to cooperate with Doosan Vina and Thaco Industries to invest more equipment to further increase loading and unloading productivity.”

These 2 STS systems have now been put into commercial operation since the beginning of May 2024 with a total lifting capacity of 60 turns/hour, helping Chu Lai port increase productivity and output, shorten cargo handling time, bring efficiency in the process of circulating and transporting goods in the port area, thereby increasing the frequency of ship operations and service quality for Chu Lai port.

In addition, currently, Doosan Vina is focusing on manufacturing and completion of 9 RTGC cranes under the Saudi Global Port project to ship to Dammam port in June 2024 and continuing to manufacture 24 cranes (6 RMQCs and 18 RTGCs) of the BMCTPL project in the coming months to supply to the Indian PSA Mumbai customer.

To date, Doosan Vina has been producing 132 cranes for international and domestic customers. Some typical ports where cranes supplied by the company are operating include PSA (Singapore), Samarinda (Indonesia), JNPT and BMCT (India) and in Vietnam include Saigon New Port, Da Nang Port, Nghi Son Oil Refinery Port, Gemalink Port, Nam Dinh Vu Port and Chu Lai Port.

Chu Lai Port is situated in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone (Quang Nam province) and enjoys convenient transportation links, easily connecting to National Highway 1A, the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway, coastal roads, railways, and airports. It is also connected to industrial parks such as Tam Thang, Bac Chu Lai, Dung Quat, VSIP, as well as the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia economic triangle and Thailand through international border gates like Nam Giang (Quang Nam) and Bo Y (Kon Tum). These connections facilitate trade and transportation of goods between the Central and Central Highlands regions and neighboring countries. Chu Lai Port is one of the 15 first-class ports (national ports, regional gateways) receiving strategic investments to develop into an international trading gateway for the Central Highlands, Southern Laos, and Northern Cambodia.
