First ”Made in Vietnam” Desalination Evaporator Shipped to the UAE

13.NOV.2009

Doosan Vina will ship the first made in Vietnam desalination evaporator to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 13th and as a part of that event the company will donate 300 million VND to assist those affected by typhoon Ketsana. The 4,000-ton unit will be installed in the desert about 60km west of Abu Dhabi in the U.A.E. and supply 75,900,000 liters of fresh water per day. That is enough water to satisfy the daily needs of 250,000 people. The desalination plant built at Doosan Vina is nearly the size of a football pitch measuring 10.6m high x 29.2m wide x 100.4m long.

Construction of the Multistage Flash (MSF) evaporator began in March and was completed in just eight months. Employing a force of 154 skilled Vietnamese craftsmen and 18 Korean technicians the team raced to meet the deadline so water could begin flowing sooner, rather than later in the deserts of the Middle East.

Mr. BJ Cho, CEO & General Director of Doosan Vina speaking to the media to mark the shipment of the first ever “Made in Vietnam” desalination evaporator said, “Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink! Why on earth would anyone say that? Our planet is nearly 75% covered by water yet potable water is becoming scarcer every day.”

The answer to that question is, of course, because most of that water is ocean water which is salty and undrinkable. He went on to say, “This desalination evaporator will be the first of many, a family of evaporators produced in Vietnam that will be working to improve the quality of life for thirsty people all over the world. We are proud to be able to play a role in solving one of our planets most troubling problems - the availability of clean, safe, and fresh water for all.”

The groundbreaking desalination technology that is used in Doosan evaporators is providing millions of liters of fresh water for thirsty people the world over and with the Made in Vietnam label the world is taking notice of what Vietnam has to offer and making a name for Doosan Vina and all of Vietnam.

With ever increasing urbanization and growing demand for potable water a solution had to be developed; answering that call the engineers at Doosan designed and built one of the world largest and most technologically advanced desalination evaporators turning salty ocean water into fresh, clean potable water for our thirsty planet.

As a global leader with 46% market share of the desalination business Doosan is recognized as a leader in water technology. The company is currently constructing the world’s largest desalination plant that will provide water for some three million people per day in the U.A.E and Saudi Arabia.
